    1961 Light Switch

The Western NY Chapter of the NCRS held a judging school Technical Session at my home a few weeks past. We used my 63 and 61 as the judging cars. This provided a good learning experience for the members and a list of questions that I need to address to complete the restoration on my cars.

One of the parts listed in the 1961-1962 JG, Fifth Edition as not being correct was the light switch "096", page 15, 8. Instruments & Controls and list the correct part as "095". My research using the 1961 AIM A154 SEC 12 Sheet 10.00 date: 6-7-60 and Noland Adams 1953-1962 Vol.1 Restoration Guide (I believe to be the same Technical Drawing) list part number 1995"096" as the correct part.

Does anyone have any other information in reference to the correct switch. I have checked the archives, this subject was discussed, but I do not believe that there was a definitive answer.

    Thanks for any information! #36314

Ray, The number is a typo in the manual. I was told this at the judges retreat in Dallas last year. The best source would be the team leader. His email is in the driveline. Tom

I looked in the new driveline and can't find the e-mail address for team leaders. I know they use to be in there, but I can't find them in recent copy. I sent e-mail to the editor and asked why, but no response yet.

e mail for team leaders is in the Restorer. 61 team leader is Dave Heitzman. His e mail is vettes6162@msn.com

          Thanks! Tom

Question to the NCRS; Why, when there is a known error in any of the Judging Guides is the membership not informed? The NCRS could provide a listing page or a JG informational page on the web to clarify the correct information. This page could be printed out and taken to any Judging meets, from Chapter to Nationals. The method for collecting and processing information of correctness is a different subject and not what I am addressing. I respect all the hard work and efforts form the members that have written the JG's and have provided the Corvette restorer with valuable information, but It is hard enough to secure the correct dated parts for a restoration. The cost in time and money needed to chase the wrong parts or even removing the correct parts for the judging of a car needs to be addressed. If the "096" is the correct switch for the 1961, there are now a few WNYNCRS chapter members that believe the "095" is the correct switch.

I wish to thank all the NCRS members for their help with my restoration projects!

Thanks John, I'm still wondering why they took it out of the driveline?

You are being way too logical. You should know by now that no organization, our government is a perfect example, uses logic, too much power and control involved for logical thinking. I better stop now or I might get deleted and banned!

                Re: 1961 Light Switch

That error (calling the '095 version of the HL switch correct for late straight axle cars vs. the '096) has been known for some time. All of the AIM books call out the '096 switch from '59-62. The '095 version of the switch was used one year only (1963) on Corvette.

The '58-60 JG doesn't bother to call out the HL switch PN as does the '61-62 book. Also, the description of the switch in the '61-62 JG book (has snow white ceramic on the dimmer pot vs. salmon color) is also known to be incorrect.

I think you'll find the NTL has a note to correct the JG descriptive error(s) in the book's next revision release and the senior judges who use the JG book for what it was intended to be (a GUIDE vs. a 'bible') don't judge by '095/white ceramic description...
