    1965 Oil Pan 327/300 Motor

I am looking for the correct oil pan for a 1965 with a 327/300....

I am not certain as to which pan is correct for the car and have had conflicting information from suppliers. This info is different about whether the drain plug is on the side or at the reat of the pan and if the pan will work without having to replace any of the internal oil pump, the pick up, and other components already on the car...Some suppliers asked if the car has power steering, which it does, saying that that will make a difference...Can I get feedback about why that would make a difference or if it doesn't matter..Just so I am clear, the car has Power Steering and has 5 quart capacity, 4 without the cannister filter.

I am finding that the replacements at several of the usual suppliers are confusing...Can someone suggest a quality supplier for one of these new GM or NOS units?

    Appreciate the help!

    Sal,

Your oil pan should be 4 quart capacity and have the drain plug in the rear center. Power steering is no problem with this pan. I just noticed a four quart pan on ebay that is new but I don't know if it's repro or GM. I know they wanted $200. but I can't remember the seller.

Are there no sources for such an part that you are aware of? My experiences with eBay, let's just say, have not been the most beneficial and offer the most value....

I believe the one on eBay is being sold by Keen Corvette Parts. It is a new reproduction and it is damn close to original. Check the archives as I recall there was a long discussion a few months ago.

I saw it at the Florida Regional and it looked ok to me.

I would give Keen a call. I believe that the pan that they have would be correct for your car, but I am not sure. I bought one of the repro pans and it was 100%.

            Guys,

We just bought a Keenparts four qt. pan for a '66 350 horse coupe we are working on. Excellent repro part in all respects except one, the spacing of the bolt holes for attaching to the pan rail are off on some of the holes by as much as half a bolt hole. Other than that, it's fine. Sal------

The only Corvette oil pans that EVER used a side drain were those used from 1975-79.

The Keen Parts pan should be correct for your application. It should not require changing the oil pump, oil pump pick-up screen, dipstick, or dipstick tube. Some of the completely incorrect, replacement oil pans do require such changes.
