    67 427/435 wiring.

How would I identify/find the "fusible link wire" that runs to the starter from I don't know where. Does anyone have a picture? I think this may be the cause my car shutting down without warning. Ignition switch and coil were replaced already without effect. The fuel pump may be next but I'd like to explore this "fusible link" possibility first. Thanks for the help.
    Rick.

    Re: 67 427/435 wiring.

Another possible culprit for sudden/erratic loss of electrical power can be the battery cutoff switch, especially if you've installed one of the 'green knob' wonders... That particular switch has no tactile feedback as to when it's open/closed and needs to be screwed down with 'gorilla' strength. Failure to do so can result in contact point bounce and internal arcing.

The arcing destroys the thin plating on the switch's lower contact surface and eventually leads to low/no conductivity. You can visually detect this by fully unscrewing the green knob from the switch and looking at the contact surface. If you see DEEP 'tracks' in the contact surface plating that radiate outward from the center (caused by the sharp pointed edges of the solid brass hex nut embedded in the green plastic handle), it's time for a fresh/new switch...

Thanks for the information Jack. My 67 does not have a cut off switch installed.....

Still Searching for the Missing Link, Rick ?

        Couldn't resist.

This diag. probably too simple for your needs, but I don't have a '67 AIM or Chassis Service Manual.

Thanks Wayne....and here I thought there would be only one. Yes, I'm still learning every day and still really enjoying it too. Now if I could only find the diagram in my 67 AIM.

PS: Your "Searching for the Missing Link" line made me laugh out loud....thanks.

            Rick -

Try UPC 12, Sheet D1 for the engine compartment wiring diagram - shows all four fusible links (two at the starter solenoid, one at the horn relay, one at the voltage regulator).

                    Rick,
Just a suggestion, but a cleaning of the engine wiring harness contacts and the interior harness where they connect on the engine side of the firewall cured my intermittent shutting down.

                      Doug,

Thanks for the heads up.......the harness is new as are all the connectors....after a seven year restoration.
