    1967 Ignition Switch Connector-Source?

Mine is held on by JB Weld as the connecting tabs are broken. I have experienced a couple of total ignition shut-downs in the last couple of years by that connector coming loose. Not fun! Lectric Limited obviously has a source because they sell $395.00 harnesses but won't sell individual connectors. Anyone know where I can get one?

Some of these connectors are LONG discontinued from Packard and now that Packard's been spun off (a division of Delphi), the bean counter's microscope is on them! Those who build reproduction wiring harness assy's sometimes have to special order in +10,000 unit lots from Packard to a given connector run specially for them and/or they have to redesign the connector's tooling out of their own pocket.

Don't be too hard on them for not selling an individual connector! Typically, the cost is less than a quarter and often fractions of a cent. They're in the business of building and selling wiring harness assemblies and onesey/twosey component sales are simply 'nuissance' transactions...

The way they look at it is, if you're missing this/that section of your harness, buy a replacement harness. OR, go to a scrap yard and gather the individual component(s) you need to repair your original harness.

The original part number for the connector was 2989610. You might try the Standard parts catalog at your dealership. An alternative might also be to carefully remove one from a '65-67 Chevy Pass car.

I searched around the internet, including the Standard Parts web site, for that connector and have come up empty-handed. Looks like I'll have to advertize for a used one or visit a salvage yard.

I'm surprised with the lack of response here given the resident expertise. No suggestions? Any workarounds? Tie-straps?

I thought that a couple of tye wraps criss crossed over the back of the switch would hold the connection tight.

                Paul,

I have the same issue with my 65, the connector is cracked and loosens up causing a shut down ocasionally. Someone offered a number for M&H, have you tried them?

                Thanks,

                George

                  Yes,
And here is the reply, typical of other such companies:

"Thank you for your inquiry. We sell complete harnesses. The connector you refer to is part of the dash harness, part 01200. This is in stock for $403.00."

                    Fallback Position

                    George,
In the absence of finding a connector for the coming driving season I will probably remove it and individually wire each terminal (without cutting the original wires). The pic shows a little trial work on a spare ignition in the basement. Those wires are very secure. I never want to lose the complete electrical system again. It is unnerving not to mention downright dangerous.

Paul, I have a harness for cannibalization, from my 65, if that helps. NC for a fellow vette-lover.

                        Jack,
That is a very kind offer! But I don't believe the 1965 connector has the nylon locking tabs with hook ends that fit into the slots in the switch body as does the 1967. If I am right, that begs another question: How is the 1965 connector held in place?

                            Al,
My internet search shows some firm in New Zealand and a company that shows twist-ties for garbage bags. Do they have a US web site?
