    Re: C2 DELCO SPEAKER

Many independents provide speaker re-cone services. Just fire up your Google search engine or search the archives here as there have been quite a few prior threads on this issue with specific recommendations from several posters.

Costs for a re-cone of a 6x9 speaker vary widely with some guys getting as little as $25 and others wanting up to $100 for the service. When done correctly, the speaker is actually BETTER than new because today's cone material is superior to that used 30-50 years ago.

On the upper end details, YES the top of the speaker was covered with 'cheese cloth' which was there to prevent airbore debris from falling through the speaker grille and 'riding' or 'rattling' atop moving speaker cone. Also, the outer edges of the speaker were lined with flexible material to interface with the dash assy.

The durometer of that material was controlled by Delco designers for a reason. It's there to acoustically 'couple' the speaker to the dash and effectively make the dash itself part of the sound system for improved bass response (there's only so much low end frequency response you can squeeze out of a small 6x9 speaker).

So, these are two additional considerations beyond raw cost/price for you to discuss as you 'shop' for a speaker re-cone technician...

Yea, If the judge cares to look, as the configuration of the magnet is round on the current replacements as opposed to the rectangular look of the original.

          Jim,
I had the original speaker from my '65 reconed by Jackson Speaker Service in Jackson, MI. It is perfect and the cost and turn-around time were reasonable. Cost to recone was $50. The telephone number for Jackson is (517) 789-6400.

          Hope this information is helpful.

          Regards,
          Gene
