    Re: GM 6272989 camshaft.....

There is discussion in the Chevrolet Power Manuals about soldering up and redrilling the rear cam bearing, however, this was apparently rescinded.

GM would not list grooved rear journal bearing camshaft assemblies as replacement for '67-up that required any modifications unless such modifications were footnoted in the parts catalog.

There has been prior discussion on this issue including a reference to an article in The Corvette Restorer that mentioned GM's rescission of the previously recommended modifications.

I believe what you are saying and I feel the pain . I say that because this engine was rebuild some time ago and I blindly trusted the builder. He soldered the hole shut and redrilled it. The result was barely any oil getting to the front of the engine. You might say I had oil but that was all you could say and it took way to long to get there when it did. I stop and started this engine a couple times over a month or so to see how the oil to the rockers acted. It simply took way too long for it to get to the front of the engine and the volume was terrible. I have never touched it since. The cam is crane cam that is a factory blue print. I have since found a very very good engine builder that very much enjoys 427's and is very detailed in putting them together. He races them and builds engines for a living and he will listen to me when I talk to him. I won't know for sure untill I get into it but hopefully I will this summer sometime. Thanks, Terry

The P&A catalog calls out a different part number for the '65-'66 rear cam bearing compared to '67-up. You should continue to research this as it appears to still be a vague area even after 40 years.

The non-grooved rear journal big block high performance camshaft assembly was once available in SERVICE under GM #3904359. In fact, it was just discontinued a few months ago. It was not available back in days-of-old, though. It became available about 1990. Strangely, though, it often arrived in tubes with early 1970's-era GM parts labels.
