    C3 Battery Compartment Seal

I have a 72 that I'm restoring the rear storage compartments on. My question is do the screws in the battery compartment (three large chrome screws in back, two smaller screws on the side and teo in the front) go through the seal or are should they be under the seal? When I removed the compartment trim I only had the back portion of my seal remaining and the three chrome screws went through the seal. However, a friend has the same car as mine and the screws on his are under the seal. Any help is appreciated.

Is the seal continous or split?

                My vote is for split.

                  Rob and Lyle-----

Definitely SPLIT. However, if you happen to get a reproduction which is not split (i.e. die cut as non-seamed) and you insist on 100% originality, it's quite simple to do. You just take a razor blade and carefully slice it near the middle of the bottom longitudinal section! That's all there is to it.
