Re: 68 Heat shield
Stefan, are any of the brackets or plates there? Is it just for the insulation you are looking for information on?
There should be several small plates that have sharp pointe triangle shaped tabs on to poke through the insulation and then those are bent over holding the isulation in place. There should be many of these on the floor pan, tunnel, and fire wall. These get riveted on, and reproductions are available through Doc Rebuild.
There are also several stud plates riveted on the floor pan and firewall that hold the battery cable in place and the heat shields to the body.
If you have any restoration catalogs or an Assembly Manual, it will show these.
(I am restoring a Feb. 68 built L71 Coupe)
Good Luck,

Re: 68 Heat shield
Stefan,
I still have the body up on stands on my early 69 and all of the insulation has been removed so you can see ALL of the clips, brackets, etc! I'll try and get a chance to take some pictures of the underbody for you tomorrow.

Re: 68 Heat shield
Here you go Steve. I hope these help you. This car was built Jan 31-69 so I would think that most if not all of the clips would be the same as a 68. If you need some more pics from different angles or areas just let me know.
Missing at the extreme left of this pic is the drivers seat reinforcment(note holes). You will see the passenger one in some of the other pics but I have yet to reinstall the drivers one.
This pic has one insulation bracket missing(note the two holes to the left of the floor).

Re: 68 Heat shield
Hello Greg
I have to ask you did this car come to you in this condition or have you spent years cleaning the floorboard. IF so have you applied clear sealer or anything to it or is this just how a well cleaned original floorboard looks?
I wish mine was that nice!

Re: 68 Heat shield
Bill,
Believe it of not, it only took me a couple hours to do this. I used Simple Green, a 3 or 4 inch paint brush, safety glasses and a garden hose and just went to it. I sprayed the cleaner on and then worked it in with the paint brush. After that I hosed it off with the garden hose and then dried it with a towel. I tried to stay dry at first but ended up totally soaked from head to toe!!! I was very sceptical at first that this would be the end result because my underbody looked terrible but as you can see it turned out quite nice.
I didn't use any sealer/clear or anything. This is just how it looked after it dried.

Re: 68 Heat shield
Hello Greg,
THis is great my car was stored outside near the ocean in Georgia for about 15 years and it has some really stout build up on it maybe salt or lime from the roads that are made from seashells. So I washed it quite a bit but the results were not that great. I will give the Simple Green a try. Thanks again for thje great info.
