Has anyone ever seen a Quadrajet #7041205 carb for a 1971 454/ 4 speed outside of a book. I have looked everywhere for one and they seem to never have exsisted. I was wondering what the point deduction is for the wrong carb. I have a #7043202 which I believe is a 1973 350 Corvette carb on it now..Jim.

Jim------
The 7041205 did exist. However, the problem is this was a Corvette-only carburetor part number, it was only used for 1971, and it was only used for the LS-5 with standard transmission application. That's why they're hard to find. Plus, I don't think that carburetors of this unit part number were ever available in SERVICE; it was a PRODUCTION-only part number and a different unit part number was sold in SERVICE right from the beginning. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Rochester 7041205 Quadrajet Carb
If your wallet is 'healthy' you'll find it in the Chicago Corvette catalog priced at $575 (double check to see if the catalog price is still current).
What's the deduction for your 7043202, well on originality considerations it's not the correct Configuration for your car (deduct 20% of the originality points available) and it's not Dated correct for your car (deduct another 20% of the originality points), but Finish, Installation, and Completeness (the other three originality axis considerations) should be OK. Then, jusdges move on to condition considerations to talley the full point deduction...- Top

Re: Rochester 7041205 Quadrajet Carb
None of the 71 Q-jet carbs are that "common" since they are all Corvette-specific. The 1970 guys are lucky in that the same numbers were used on passenger cars. 1972 numbers also seem easier to find, for whatever reason.
I own two 1971 carbs for base motor 4 speed transmission cars, one on my car and one as a spare. I just couldn't pass up the second one once I spent 10 years looking for the first.
And, I wouldn't pay Chicago Corvette anything for a carb in their possession, but that's another subject.

Re: Rochester 7041205 Quadrajet Carb
You might want to check with blake in the Hemmings Motor News. His website is www.blake.com/oemcarbs. Thats where I got my 7041213 for my '71 roadster with the base motor and 4 spd. He has both carbs for the '71 base motor applications listed in Hemmings this month. He is pretty good at locating hard to find carbs.

Re: Rochester 7041205 Quadrajet Carb
PHIL----
Rochester or GM never rated these carbs in CFM as did Holley and Carter for their carbs. However, the CFM rating of most Q-Jets is in the 750-850 CFM range. Most folks don't realize that these carbs have about the same volumetric capacity as the bigger Holley carbs. Plus, due to their small primary/large secondary configuration and air valve secondary operation, they're a lot more streetable carb than a Holley. They can be used on a much wider range of engine sizes, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

there were 2 sizes of Q jets,750 and 800 CFM
the 800 CFMs use a larger primary throttle bore. the big problem with Q jets used for max performance was the fact that it had only 1 inlet needle and seat to supply the float bowl where holley and carter AFBs had 2. this is why you must use a "windowed" needle seat in all high performance engines to keep the float bowl full. most all after market rebuild kits do NOT supply this type of needle seat and you must modify the one supplied to allow more fuel flow thru the addition of "windows"- Top
