BB or SB also C1's my thoughts

Documented isn't good any more now that they are also repro'ed. It's sad that owners having a real BB is now questioned weather it's real. That is why BJ getting the prices they get, in curage some to make a BB and those that buy worry ! I don't see an answer in the high horse world of Corvettes .But when it's run it's course the SB's might come on strong. The C1 has the advantage that the 53 to 55 there was no options, starting in 56 options came in causing them also to be questionable to buyers and they to seem to have to many 2x4's, FI, big brakes and so on and there is no need for documention because there was none.
If I was to buy another Corvette the person selling it would have to have had it for more then 25 years showing me it was what it is now 25 years ago. That is how I sold my 67 to a happy new owner that wonted a REAL Corvette the way it was originally . I feel sad and worried about where the so called hobby is going. Thinking about all this reminds me why my interest in NCRS and not attending many meets don't interest me much any more. I find it harder to find and see ordinary C2 Corvettes showing up , even 53 to 54 you may see two or three and rarely a 55 .
I feel lucky settling on having a real original 55 that no one would question concerning options saying nice Corvette , then move on looking at newer Corvettes wondering and asking the owner if it's original. And the poor owner having to defend their Corvette if optioned . Oh well that's how I see things now! sorry to dump on the Corvette!

Re: BB or SB also C1's my thoughts

Roy, speaking for myself, I think the whole Corvette hobby is going through a transition of late, as demonstrated in the BJ auctions. I don't think it's good for the hobby, as too many fakes are being created. And looking back the past 17 years that I have been involved, I've seen the monetary values continue to rise for most Vettes without any signs of letting up.

My hope is that the fakes are discovered and identified as such, and that common sense will once again prevail. My other hope is that guys like you and others on this board continue in your involvement. I feel strongly that your involvement continues to influence and refine the hobby to the point of ENJOYMENT, which is why I do it. Many others are in it for the money, and there will always be that group. I don't have a BB or SB, nor a 67 L-88 roadster. It's just me and my old 54!

    My $0.02

p.s. Your brother-in-law is a great guy. But he disagrees with your body shim opinion! Ha!

Re: BB or SB also C1's my thoughts

i bought a 66 roadster that was suspected by the dealer to be a BB but had a 327 and SB hood. i went by the judging manual to try to verify it and found all the right clues. fuel line tach oil guage and line TI holes dated 4:11 rear etc. i made the decision to return her back to her glory. i took a gamble then found the 2nd owner from 1971 that blew the 427 and swapped it. he bought it with 20k on it and now i have photos of it as a 427/425. so should i have just let it be a fake 327? i feel i have an obligation to return this car to what it was just loke any other muscle car desearves. i would not trade a SB for a BB having owned both and would not have kept it if it turned out to be a SB car. it is a rare nassau ble with white blue int that makes a stunning BB example.

In your case I agree , you have the second owner and hopefully pic's and his statement about the vett going back to 71 . But how many people have that ? Many people back then dint even think of saving anything . But now with NCRS and buyers, if you don't that! They put you on trail showing or selling a Corvette now days>

          lucked out finding 2nd owner

i did luck out. i banged the last oldest known owner a year with no info and on new years eve emailed again explaining i just spent 20k on a 427 on the chance i was right. turns out #2 was his cousin and he contacted me, turns out he is a ford exect that still has a vette and understood my plight. i got alot of great pics and plan to reunite him at carlisle this year and let him drive it again. could make a good story for the ncrs mag.

"i banged the last oldest known owner"

I am hoping that there is a typo here or is this a new phrase I need to learn.
