    6V regulator for 54 C1

I happened upon a Delco 6 volt NOS regulator on ebay with a part number 1118827E and has a date code of 4F, both stamped into the steel base mount tabs. My understanding is that the correct number is in fact 1118827 without the "E" suffix. The original style regulator also has the cover screws going through the top of the cover, and the ebay regulator has them going on the lower flange, similar to later model examples.

My question: Since the part number is correct except for the E suffix, would it pass NCRS judging?

Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

The 'E' refers to the revision level of the assy. As a given part was 'improved' over time, its rev level rolled to distinguish it from prior revisions of the same part.

The part will 'pass' NCRS judging as it's a Delco Remy manufactured item correct for the application. But, it's different in Configuration (you already spotted the cover attachment difference) from the item that was originally shipped on your car from the factory.

So, it qualifies as a service replacement component and points will be taken to the extent it differs from known original factory parts along the lines of Finish, Date, Installation, Configuration and Completeness. Figure you'll lose 20% of the originality points associated with the component for each of the five originality axis areas that differ from the known original....

Thanks for that info, Jack. Since the original regulator is so difficult to find, I'll be happy to take the small deduction for this item.

original 54 regulators weren't stamped on the mounting pad but rather on the side of the main frame(90 degrees away from the mounting pads on the narrow end of the main frame rectangal). you description indicates serv replacement as jack alluded to. mike

Mike, was that an ink stamp or debossed metal stamp on that original one? I want to continue to search for the original one and want to be able to identify it.

          Thanks!

Stamped into the metal, just as Dr. Mike described. Chuck
