I am changing out all of my non-original hoses and have a question about the black push in style tie straps, particularly those attaching the overflow tank to radiator hose to the inner skirt. How exactly does one go about attaching this type of tie strap? Drill appropriate size hole and push in place? Seems like there should be something backing the tab you push in. I clearly have two holes in the skirt that would seem to be where these straps would attach, but before I simply push them in I thought I would ask if there is anything else I should know. Thanks.

The existing holes are for those straps - just push the splined stub end in the hole, wrap the strap over the hose, and push the open end over the other end of the splined stub. Doc Rebuild has good straps - those from other vendors tend to break shortly after installation.- Top

Kirk, John is correct in that some repro straps don't hold very well. They are usually too stiff and too shiny, thus enabling the splined ends to slip out and the strap to open. A fix if the splined end keeps popping out of the hole in the fender skirt is to push a small needle thru the splined end from the underside of the wheel well using a needle (no pun) nose pliers after the strap is pushed thru the panel.- Top

I have also found that taking a piece of shrink tubing and placing it on the splined end and heat shrinking it to fit does a good job. I haven't had much luck with the straps though. Even the one's from Doc are regularly breaking. Either the rings or the strap just below the ring is failing.- Top
