    Cooling My Heals

Looking to purchase an under the carpet heat barrier kit for a '68 and was wondering if they work? If so, which one is best, and what are the do's and don'ts of installation?

    Koolmat Insulation

    Rob,

The best way to stop the heat from radiating into the passenger compartment is the proper installation of Koolmat. It is a silicone mat with woven fiberglass reinforcement that was developed for and is used extensively by NHRA and NASCAR race teams. A solid shield from door to door and heater to rear of seat will STOP the heat. Other insulating products only slow down the heat penetration. I have installed all of the others over the years and Koolmat works when others have failed. The website is listed below.

Bill, what's the best adhesive to use on this stuff? 3M heavy duty, or something else? STW, Mike

        Mike---

The correct install is with the fiberglass down against the floor. On that side you can use 3M HD. On the silicone side, all seams must be sealed with Valco Hi-Temp Silicone. If the carpet or padding is glued to the silicone side, the same Valco must be used. It is available from Koolmat distributors.

High performance insulation for high performance cars!

What an excellent idea. I thought I was the only one who baked in my Corvette. Looks like I've got my first winter project cut out for me. Just another example of how valuable this Board is!

Has anyone used this stuff on a sidepipe car? I'm wondering how much, if any, it muffled the noise radiating into the interior?
