I have a 1971 454/ 4 speed coupe with A/C produced on March 5, 1971. I must be a little dense, because when I read the judging guide, I can't decide whether or not any of the hoses need dated clamps or not. I think the radiator uses "Sure Tite" undated clamps, but I am not sure about the heater hoses or the water pump hose and the vent elbow hose to the air cleaner need dated clamps. I have also been trying to replace the choke hold down phillips head screw with a replacement. All of the replacements ones are too small. The one in there now has a head that looks similar to a valve cover bolt. It also looks to be original. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks! Jim

Re: 1971 Hose Clamps
All of the factory original hose clamps were known to be dated. SB used a 273513 Philips head screw to mount the divorced choke assy to the intake manifold while BB engines used a 456867 Philips head screw for the same purpose. I'm unaware of hex head bolts being used for this function on BB's...- Top

Re: 1971 Hose Clamps
Jim the radiator hose clamps were NOT dated. They are worm gear (sometimes called air craft style) clamps with the manufacturers logo and model name stamped on them with a size designator on them as well.
Water pump to intake (by-pass hose) were also NOT dated, and I don't believe they have any kind of manufacturer's logo on them -- not much room for that given the style they are.
If any of your heater hose clamps are the tower type, and I would expect at least those at the engine end to be tower type, those will be dated for the 1-3/16 inch size, and NOT dated for the 1-1/16 inch size. Both size tower clamps will have the manufacturer's logo, and size stamped on them, and the 1-1/16 inch size will have DCR stamped on it -- that indicates dichromate, and they should have a slight yellow color to them. The bulk of your heater hose clamps, given your car is air-conditioned will be the worm gear style, which do have the manufacturer's logo on them.
Have you looked at the latest (fourth edition) TIM&JG. These clamps are described there with drawings that will enhance my meager word skills. If you have read the TIM&JG, and you are still confused, I suggest you contact the listed team leader so that the manual can be reworded to eliminate confusion. It is always difficult to write words to convey information without confusion. Well meaning people are still debating the words of the US constitution several hundred years after it was written -- we hope against all hope to do better than that.Terry- Top
