    C2 63/64 grille hardware

For a 63/64 front grill the attachment screw and nut are what??
    And the Finish is what??

At present it appears my Mar64 has ¼-20 Phillips round head screws
Secured through the fiberglass with U nuts that are marked with a “m”
All hardware appear to be a gray phosphate finish.

The AIM seems to be showing two U nuts (3826920) at the outside brackets, while on the fiberglass ten points J nuts (3831934) are used. These are all secured with one screw type (9419252).

However a look at the parts catalog (71) calls for all J nuts of 10-12 in Grp8.921.
It is the 65 that calls for ¼-20.

Anyone know what was used on the floor?
    Thanks Alan

Re: C2 63/64 grille hardware FYI

Was looking over my extra parts and a new grille with hardware appeared & its not Christmas!

The screws and nuts where in a bag called “Universal Grille Unit Instructions”, part number 3846941 with a REV: 2-13-67 with an Instruction Sheet Identification No: C846941.

The Instructions are to fix the following possible problem:
“When using on early 1963 Corvette the attaching holes on grille and front end panels may not line up.”

It then goes on to have one drill out the ten 9/32 diameter holes to 23/64 and the two 5/16 diameter holes to 23/64 of the 1 st design.

I found my Mar64 had all holes the same size of 11/32 – the 23/64 did not fit or could you force it into the 11/32 holes. I therefore believe that the grille area is original still.

All screws and nuts are 1 /4-20, the screws are finshed in gray phosphate (look like it) while the nuts seem to be black phosphate.

Ten are all U nuts and marked with a small “m” as I found on my grille. These are labeled in the kit as 3831934 nuts and 9419252 screws. The 3831934 is the same as that found in the AIM, however they are U nuts not J nuts.

Two are J nuts and marked with a large “L” with a small “c” across the long leg of the L. These are labeled in the kit as 3771780 nuts and 9419252 screws. Neither of these numbers are in the AIM, the AIM calls for a U nut, but these are J nuts.

Hope somebody can use the info.
    Have a good day!

        Re: Locations

The subject nuts and screws are used to hold the grille onto the body. There are the 3 along the top between the headlights, 7 along the bottom behind the crome finsih, (all ten are part of fiberglass panel) and the two remaining go into a metal mounting bracket that is riveted mid way up on either side just above the parking lights.
Not aware of what the first 63 design looks like, however a look at your 64 should make my description clearer.

Alan....I didn't mean to confuse this issue, I thot we were talking about the brackets on the front of the inner fender panel. But if you wish I'll look at them tomorrow. I had an issue myself today with my dog and a raccoon that decided they didn't like each other. ($800 vet bill)
