C-1 windshield frame tabs

Mr. 1st timer in the restoration game here, I am going to tackle the dash on my 59 this spring. I have read some articles on replacing the dash, bought my dash, supplies and re-painted my instrument housing and even had the speedo and tach restored. My problem is I keep hearing these horror stories about those dreaded tabs on the windshield frame. "They are easy to break, be careful when removing the frame" or "Yours are most likely gone already". Here is my questions: Where are they? What do they do? If mine are gone how do I get them replaced. I have not yet removed the windshield and that is why I am writing. I just want to be prepared. Thanks in advance for any help.

Tim, the tabs are part of the mounting for the frame. I have the same problem with my '55. I plan on sending mine to Corvette Central for a more permanent repair. See thier website for details. Last I checked it was $65 per post + shipping. I have been told they assist in structural strength that keeps your windshield from cracking or breaking. I'd fix them.

Most of the tabs that are broken have had nothing to do with the removal or reinstallation of the windshield and/or windshield frame.
Most have to do with trying to clamp down softtops on which the fabric has aged, tightened, and shrunk. You can easily, by virtue of clamping the front softtop clamps to the windshield frame actually snap one or both of those tabs.
