C3 Its not Funny, Will this Tag Pass Judging?

Ok...I have been laughed at twice today, and have been told "dont waste your money in those junk years" and asked why are you putting money into "one of those"

Hey this is all I can afford right now! I told the one guy if I had a 67 L-88 I'd have my lawyer calling for the parts!

All I want to know is who makes the red differential positraction tag for my 1976 that passes judging? Its that simple.... Can someone help with out laughing?

    Thanks,

    Chris

I seriously doubt ANYONE on this board will laugh at you. I can only guess which Corvette Forum you were on that someone laughed at you. Each person's idea of a nice Corvette is different. Enjoy yours!

To answer your question: I don't know. But, I would bet that Dr. Rebuild and Paragon Reproductions both carry this. Check out there web sites.

I would buy used on E-bay but I am not sure that item is spelled out on the judging sheets you may want to check. I think the ones sold today are not quite perfect.

Chris, Those guys are jerks! Just continue to restore your C3. This organiazation was founded on enthusiasts like yourself. You must like the car for what it is, it is no less a Corvette because of the year.As far as your Posi tag, try Paragon or Doc Rebuild. Also, this would appear to be a relatively easy find at a swap meet. Good luck and have fun!

I was calling around to all the used parts places. The guy at Pipers told me it was $100.00 because the time it would take to find it, he could be anwering a call for a $750.00 waterpump! Corvette World struck the first laughter. He could hardly talk he was laughing so hard. Any reasonable leeds would greatly be appreciated.

            Chris,

Doc Rebuild shows 1965 to 79 plastic posi tags, p/n 8999282 for $9.50, their number is (203) 366-1332. Paragon has 1973 to 1979 used a plastic "Limited Slip" differential tag p/n 8149 for $6.00. Mike a Paragon could not verify if they have successfully passes NCRS Flight Judging, Paragon's number is 800-882-4688.

            Hope this helps!

            Regards,

            James West

              Hey Chris,

My first Corvette was a '76 and someday when I have more money and time I'm going to buy another one just like it. Each model and year, while different, are beautiful cars in their own way and have their unique styling cues. I always love the raised cowl of the hood of my '76.

And consensus preferences aside, it comes down to the personal satisfaction YOU get out of working on and restoring your car. Some of my fondest memories are of working on my '76.

I love C3s the best so I'd let any negative comments roll right off your back! Frankly, regardless how much money I had to spend I would still want a C3 over any other model. Now if only I could get mine back on the road, I'd really be happy!

                    Good Luck, Ken.

                          Chris & James:

I do chassis judging on those late model C3s and I just look for a splash of red at that differential plug...but don't tell my team leader that. When judging your manuveuring around the exhaust system and rear spring with a flashlight so I'm checking for its existence, color and configuration and configuration includes white lettering. Either the $6.00 or $9.00 version would work fine. If I had to pay $100.00...I would take the hit on point deduction.
