When purchasing NOS fiberglass for a 1970, isn't the molded color different as compared to the original? The outside of the rear valence is painted body color; however, isn't the back of the fiberglass left raw? Thanks, Bunky

Re: 1970 Rear Valence - back side of fiberglass
Color should be dark charcoal gray. I believe some later NOS fiberglass may be the Gennite material; kind of light to medium gray.
For painting, the exhaust panel was loosely hung on the car with two bolts...the back side should be natural fiberglass.- Top

Re: 1970 Rear Valence - back side of fiberglass
There are pictures I believe in the 70 Registry of grease pencil markings and undersides of some cars back there if I remember correctly. I know I sent a photo of that area and marked on mine maybe in the license area. May be worth a look I should check first but it used to be there.

Warren, yours should have looked something like mine (two pictures; the bottom picture shows the marking detail).
I was looking through Dobbins' Fact Book of 1968-1972 Stingray, and I happened to see his picture of a 70 exhaust panel (Third Edition, page 256). I made an interesting observation: the handwriting of the date marks was the exact same as on mine, i.e. the 6 is made with an almost non-existenent loop and the little tail on the loop end.
There seems to be no system to the location of the mark; mine is marked on the extreme left end, and his is marked on the right end. I expect that exhaust panel may have been from a late car like mine.
