    C1 aftermarket steering assembly

I am seriously considering the removal of my front end and installing an aftermarket unit with modern rack and pinion steering together with disc brakes. There is one or two that I keep seeing advertised, either derived from a Mustang II or else from the GM Camaro family. I would like to hear from anyone who has knowledge of this assembly from personal experience. The fact that these are, supposedly, bolt in affairs and that they retail for somewhere around $3,500, their appeal is great from a safety point of view. I know that I would drive my 62 Corvette more and with more confidence if it had better brakes and steering.
I look forward to some interesting feedback.

$3500 is just the beginning. The steering column will add several hundred more $$, plus master cylinder, brake lines, etc.
Why are you afraid of the original stuff? If it's worn out it can be rebuilt.

      For a fraction

of the cost of conversion, you could have the OE steering rebuilt, and install the quick steering adapter. I doubt even R&P would be as quick as that.

They may claim bolt in, but when you find out the details it is not exactly a bolt in. You have to cut the motor mounts and reweld them etc. One of the magazines did an article a couple of months ago, maybe someone still has the article or can tell you which mag and you can go to their website and read it.
I also agree that for a lot less money you can rebuild your system and still enjoy driving the car.
