Thanks for the responses this information is greatly appreciated. I have had several judges (both Chapter and recently at the Lake Tahoe Regional) try and tell me that original N14 cars also don't have any shielding for the backup switch. What do you guys think??

I've always known the shield to be there. One example I know of is my former 67 with original factory side exhaust, which has it, and I have no doubt it was the original unremoved shield and switch. Additionally, I've always thought of it to be a "debris shield", not a "heat shield", which is what I believe it is being "implicated" to be. TBarr #24014

I second Tom's comment as my stock 67 B/B coupe has the original optioned side exhaust and yes the back up light switch cover as Tom says is for probably for deflection of both heat and debris.In any case it is there and this car is original.grr#33570

Maybe it was you, Brett, that mentioned something of the same earlier. But I know the same scenario has been mentioned here at the Discussion Board before. Sure, everyone is still learning new things about these cars, but it doesn't seem very likely that this is one of them. I'm not sure where and how this "no backup-light switch cover-shield" for side exhaust cars got started and am wondering how far it is beginning to spread, since you've mentioned it has been brought up again at another separate meet.

Other than some individual finding say, an isolated instance, what sort of evidence is being presenting to have "discovered" such a thing? Or is one or more people just "stating" this to be true, or just possible, or what? Maybe it can be traced back to the source. TBarr #24014
