    '74 Coupe Door Alignment

Does anybody have any suggestions as to aligning the doors to maintain an even gap at the strike side? I am not sure if factory assembly utilized shims to accomplish this. Both doors have a slight drop at the strike side, (about 1/8-3/16") just enough so that the peak of the body/door do not match perfectly as I would want. If factory shims need to be used at the hinge side, I would appreciate what material they are made from and possibly where I can get them. Both doors close and latch very well....just trying to get a better reveal.

    Thanks in advance......Mel

    Mel,

Check to see if the hinge bolt holes into the door aren't slotted. I seem to recall that you can move the entire door rearward/forward, or you can move the top or bottom door edge more than the other. Probably originally intended as a "rough" adjustment to get it in the range of shims for the assembly line. Sorry I can't confirm, my hinges are packed deep in a storage box.

You are probably going to need a helper; Proceed carefully to avoid boogering your paint or fiberglass.
