69 Side Window Adjustment Using Chassis Manual

During this rainy Memorial Day weekend, I decided again to try to align my drivers side window. Upon the advise of others, I dug out the 69 Chassis Manual. Prior to this, I had used just the AIM. The directions in the CM don't resemble the window in my car. If anyone cares to look, check out pages 1B 9 to 1B 12. Especially check out Fig. 17..Door Glass adjustments. My car has NO Bolts/Nuts labelled "F" and "G". It has no center bolt labelled "E". I've tried everything to get the inboard/outboard arc adjusted on this car. When I saw "adjustment screw G", I thought this might be my problem. Not there! Is the CM (gasp!) incorrect?? Any suggestions appreciated. Chuck

Re: 69 Side Window Adjustment Using Chassis Manual

Hi Chuck, I have the 1970 Chassis Manual which states it's for the 1969 corvette. Do you have the 69 CM which I presume would be the 68 vette? The 1971 CM for my '70 is on my list of things to buy one of these days. I scanned the picture in question. Does this clear it up at all? I'm wondering if they changed the way it was done between 68 and 69 when they changed the door locks from the button style on 68's. Drop me a line or e-mail. You're welcome to borrow this, or I can photocopy & snail or scan and e-mail if it'll help. Of course, then you'll be ahead of me getting that window to line up better. Mine requires some ragtop adjustments, which I hope are do-able and not set due to cutting or bolt holes etc from the way my new one was installed (ahem, professionally). ~Juliet

That's the very picture from the 69 CM. Problem....there is no "F" or "G". Look at the "tang" that F and G fit into/onto...not there. This is supposedly to aid inboard/outboard adjustment. Looking in the 69 AIM...not there either. My problem is that I cannot get the window "outboard" enough. The convertible top is part of the problem, but if I could get the window out...it would be better. Chuck

        Juliet,

I always assumed that the when the chassis manuals were published for the '70 Chevrolets, they were still making '69 Corvettes. Production of '70 Corvettes didn't start until January, 1970. I believe this is a one time anomoly.

          Chuck-----

With respect to side window adjustment, I have always found the Chassis Service Manual procedures to be utterly useless. In fact, although I'm a big fan of every owner possessing and using their GM-sourced service manual, the side window adjustment procedure is an exception. I've found the AIM procedure, which is significantly different, to be the more successful.

This is also true for clutch adjustment. Personally, I've found the AIM procedure to be superior to the Service Manual-described procedure.
