I am in the process of resoring my 78 pace car and am beginning to paint some parts. Where can I find a book that states the original colors of parts such as the rear end, half-shafts, brackets, etc.?
What book describes correct part colors?

Re: What book describes correct part colors?
Rhys,
To make it factory correct, order a copy of the NCRS Judging Manual appropriate for your car from the NCRS website merchandise page.
Unfortunately, some of those parts you mentioned will probably be natural. Then you have to decide whether to let them corrode, clear coat them, etc.

Re: Thanks guys, any suggestions for "natural colo
Rhys,
It depends on what you want to do with your car; if you ever want to join NCRS and have the car judged, then by NCRS standards, natural means natural (no paint). If the thought of your hard work corroding away bothers you, then you can try making a clear coat undetectable.
If you are not going to have it judged, but you want to be close, choose a paint color close to the base metal. There are many products available (they're always trying to invent a better mousetrap ); Cast Blast (cast iron), Aluma-cast (aluminum), etc. You'll have to try some and see what you like best.

More Thoughts-Sources for "natural color"
Rhys,
Edit: aluma-cast=alumi blast
Study the catalog descriptions of the usual Corvette vendors: Eckler's (www.ecklers.com), Mid-America (www.madvet.com). More likely sources are Eastwood (www.eastwoodcompany.com), Caudells (317-922-7372, and Quanta (www.quantaproducts.com). Some of these will be close.

Pre-Lube 6
Rhys,
If you decide to stay natural on any parts that are easily accessed, Pre-Lube 6 is an excellent rust inhibitor . Quanta, for example, uses it on half shaft and drive shaft restoration. Occasional reapplication is recommended as needed . It will also remove light rust that has returned to a previously cleaned part . It is available in small spray cans as well as larger containers.

Re: Pre-Lube 6
One more suggestion...... OEM Paints has a paint for almost any finish and as close to correct as you will find in a spray can. The web address is "www.oempaints.com". You can view all products and applications on your computer screen or request a catalog. GOOD LUCK!- Top
