I just received a shipment from Long Island Corvette and the black plastic rear window interior moldings are both badly scratched. They tell me that is the way they get them and that they have to be painted. My originals, now broken, do not look like they were ever painted. Can anyone tell me if they should be painted or not. Thanks.

I have no direct experience with these particular moldings. However, many original GM plastic moldings of the period were of common-colored substrate material and were painted whatever the interior color was by the vendor that supplied the parts to GM. You can check for this by observing the reverse side of the molding. If it appears to be "through-colored" plastic, then they were not painted; otherwise, they were painted.
I can tell you that while the PRODUCTION pieces were either painted or "through-colored" plastic, such pieces were NEVER available in SERVICE from GM. The GM parts, when they were available under GM #3899327 and GM #3899328, had to be painted to match the interior color. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
