I just got an "INF 70" result printout from California. My 78 was there from 1990 to 2000. It lists the previous pre 1990 license plate as: W337891. This does not fit California and CA does not list the state for the "prev lic:" field. Does this prefix/sequence look familiar to anyone? I tried http://www.plateshack.com and some other sites to check what plates were out there pre 1990, but had no luck. Eric #3,182

Re: Lookning for a state with a license W337891
The best way is to see if they listed a prev. owner, most titles do. 1990 is a fresh trail, I have traced cars back into the 60's. Most states also give you a list of titles back to the start of their records. If the car moves out of state the records are distroyeed after a few years.

Re: Lookning for a state with a license W337891
Ronnie, Thanks for the reply. The problem is that CA only keeps microfisch for 10 years so the copy of the 90 title is long gone. The only clue I have is the plate number without the state. I have gone back 4 states already (3 from 2000 to 2007) using the previous state/registration field on the titles. If someone can identify the plate format I listed then I will send requests to them as well. Eric- Top

Re: Lookning for a state with a license W337891
It has been a few years but California would do a manual search back even into the 60's. The cost was high like $800.00 or so. I still have the price list somewhere. You might try this by directly contacting the DMV.

Ronnie, Thanks. I have sent for the 'Hardcopy' references from the titles listed on my INF 70. It costs $20 per year requested. Hopefully I can get the info you sugested from them. Now I need to wait for 30 days..... Eric- Top

New angle temp tag?? W337891
I just got an e-mail from the owner of http://www.15q.net/, Dave Nicholson (Nice guy) He states that in 1990 he is unaware of any state using W337891 format. His speculation was that it was a temporary plate used for transport. Eric- Top
