Phil C.'s post below reminded me of some data I ran across when doing research for my car in Shreveport / Bossier City, Louisiana, in the early '90s.
Time slip is the original from the Indy Nationals (Sept '67) and is for a 1965 yellow 396 convertible (not mine, alas -- the OTHER yellow one in the area at the time). After winning state championship for C/SP (C- sports ?, I'm not familiar with the class rules other than the car appears fairly stock), the owner and his mechanic went on to the nationals.
This car is VIN #21xx1 (can't make out 2 digits from the dealer invoice).
Click on following link for the results of Indy Nationals; check the times and speeds for the Corvettes.
You old-timers will probably recognize some of the names. Notice 8th line from the bottom is C/SP. Nothing there as the yellow 396 (the should'a-been winner) and runner-up were both disqualified --- the Corvette because they removed the spare tire carrier [even though they were told it was OK during tech].
Where were the tripowers ?
