    C1 Trunk Springs

    Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has any idea where to get good springs for the trunk or what to do about my bad ones? My old ones sagged, so I put in new ones that sagged two inches, just barely enough for Duntov. But, since the lid has been down, they now sag eight inches! The Driveline has an add for good, but incorrect, springs, but I need good springs that will also pass judging. If I use enough shims to keep the lid up, it won't shut, so what is the answer?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Re: C1 Trunk Springs

I have not found springs that will hold the lid up properly. I have tried several vendors, ans I always end up having to shim under the springs, and as you point out, they will eventually sag. I can not imagine what the 58 guys do with the additional weight of the trunk irons. Next car I build, I am going to try and have a set custom made.

    Regards, John McGraw

The trunk sag is worse if you have repo trunk spears. There were some repo made from brass. Better quality than the pot metal originals, but they weighed about 1.5 times the original spears. As a result the trunks sagged from the weight. Many thought it was because the springs are bad, but the extra weight made a difference.
