    C2 spindle supports

Does anyone have any thoughts about the finish on rear spindle supports, the ncrs green cover book i have says there semi black ,but every other book or factory photo suggest that they are natural casting ,my 65 is a low mile car and shows no evidense of any paint ,thanks guys.

If any were ever painted, it was the mid years, especially the 63-64. However, I feel that from 1965-onward, they were not painted.

Joe discussed a similar issue with me in the past, do a search on C2 rear shocks around Jan 2007. As Joe mentioned the 65 onward had a change. If you carefully read the JG I believe it says may be black (can't find page right now)

The 4th edition manual for 1967 says the spindle supports were painted semi-gloss black, but I agree there are varying opinions on whether this is correct. One advantage of painting them black is that you can protect them without losing originality points, as opposed to using cast blast or some other "natural" appearing paint. Of course, as soon as you paint them black the JG will be changed to specify a natural finish.....

Joe i know what you mean ,i dont mind doing things right the first time, but it is frustrating when they change things on you, these cars are way too much work for the changes if they make them mid stream ,they should stand by any edition of the book, otherwise we will have to buy a new book every year and redo are cars.just a thought.

              Jim,

The '66 JG says the same thing; semi-gloss black, which is what I did with mine. I've haven't heard any rumblings about this being an obvious error in the JG and I really doubt it would ever get changed to natural in the JG, so my bet is your are safe painting them S-G black and not worrying about rust and being by the book in term of judging.

word is that "they" stopped the blackout treatment in the rear (if you can call it that) in 65 due to fears of gunking up the then new disk brakes . . . . .
