1967 Coupe on eBay - loaded tri power

What do you think about this car. The guy claims it is the engine is matching numbers but doesn't show the stamp pad. He also doesn't show the trim tag.

    I can't think of definite tell-tales to know a 400 hp from a 390 hp.

    Chris,

I would say from the seller's comments that everything appears original, he is making no claim that it has the original block, etc. A good view of the stamp pad, atleast would be essential in order to proceed any further with interest in this car. There's usually a reason why a seller doesn't include in his listing the stamp pad and trim tag. I would ask if he is actually selling the car for the owner, and whether he is available to speak with directly. Unless you can obtain some previous owners' history I would be very careful.

I don't blame a seller for saying that the numbers appear to be original. Why say that the car has the original, numbers matching engine unless you were positive? Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware). If you're interested in this or any other car, hire some knowledgeable, local person to check out the car for you. When I was looking for a C2 to purchase, I found really good people through this board to check out a few cars. It was the best money I could spend. I wouldn't just rely on photos on the internet or written statements from a buyer as the final word. Do your due diligence.

        Chris,

There is a thread on today's Corvette Forum on this car. I believe you can copy and paste the link below to read it. If not, it is posted on 1 March under C1/C2 General Discussion by Procrastination Racing.

        http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1637519

It is always nice to talk with a previous owner. Good luck.

Oh no! Now the shady dealers will post a thread on the Corvette Forum, claiming, by a ficticious "son" that their 1967 L88 "used to be owned by their late father", who lost the tank sticker, and other documentation, in a hurricane. Just kidding, this one may be the real deal.

1967 427 coupe 194377S107518 is my old car

I'm sure you are not implying anything about me, Ridge, but you do need to be careful what you post and where, because it is a small world out there.

I owned this car from Nov 1974 to June 1976 and I can tell you that there are some changes in how it was when I had it to how it is today. Those issues will impact the price some, although nothing like the Geoffrey's find of the old yellow '67 327 that is now a black '67 435 hp.

Right now, I'm torn between what to do about it.

I'd like to see the car again. I've looked for about 30 years for it. You can imagine my feelings when it popped up in an eBay search. It was my first, and it has that "first girlfriend" appeal. However, I'm not going to fly 1000 miles one way to sit in the seat for 5 minutes again. At the price it will go for, there is no way I will buy it back, unless about 20 of you want to contribute $10,000 each to a "Buy Mike His Car Back" fund.

(If you do, I will bring it to every NCRS meet so all of you can share in it. Unlike the Last Sting Ray, contributors get to enjoy some first hand time with it rather than from afar.)

If I confront the guy, he may get mad, as we have seen this board do that a few times with various eBay auctions. That means I get no information on who has it or where it goes.

If I don't, then another "rare" Corvette goes off to a buyer as a mint original car. Honestly, to a certain extent, I have to say it serves people right to spend that kind of money with absolutely no investigation into the car. Most would spend more time checking out a $5,000 pickup I was selling than they would buying a $100,000+ Corvette.

If they completely blow it with the truck, the most they lose is $5000. If they blow it with the Corvette, they could have bought a new Z06 and more with the difference.

VIN 194377S107518 and my name are connected in several spots on the Internet. If they were researching this car at all, they would have found it. And I'm not hard to find on the Internet at all.

I have the full title history with owners names and such from the time it was new until 1976 including the original dealer. This is pre-privacy act stuff, so it has everything. The owner or the new owner can contact me privately to see about getting it. Once upon a time, I'd have given it freely for the chance to know where the car was and to see it again. But the insanity of prices anymore has hardened me somewhat and I think this valuable information should really be for sale. Face it, if they can pay a couple hundred thousand for a Corvette, they should be able to cough up a few buck for real documentation. We already kow what fake docs go for. Real stuff should be better.

Hi Mike If you want to make a couple bucks why dont you contact the dealer Iam sure he would be interested and you could find out what kind of guy he is. You asking people to chip in to buy the car for you thats a stretch. Dont know if you were serious I would hope not! The price people pay may seem dumb but I dont see anybody given cars away! Junk on ebay and everywhere else is selling for 25-30K and up now. 100K plus for that car if it is what it is is no money if its real and you know better than most. Iam restoring my 63 and have over 40K in body and paint alone. Just my 2 cent Phil 8063

Expect 20 NCRS guys to chip in $10,000 each and you have to ask if I'm serious?

Of course, the more I thought about it later, the more I liked that idea. After all, how many contributed to help some millionaire in Ohio restore a silver/black 427 coupe just so he could sell it for a huge profit at Barrett Jackson?

At least I made the offer to keep this silver/black 427 coupe circulating at NCRS events so those who contributed could enjoy a hands-on experience from it. Would you rather watch a 6 hour video, or spend time behind the wheel?

I guess it really doesn't matter. The car did not sell. The bid went to $95,400 and didn't hit reserve.

He does have a point. I love how people pour out gifts to millionaires but ignore the ones who really need help.
