Does anyone know the purpose of the fuel tank return line? 3x2 Holley cars did not have one, but single Rochester cars did. Why wouldn't the Holleys need it (or, why did the Q-jet?) The return line creates a "loop" between the tank and filter that is in constant circulation. Why would this be necessary? Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: Holley carb fuel return line?
Joe------
The purpose of the return line was to help prevent fuel "vapor lock" conditions. However, I don't know why Chevrolet felt that only Q-Jet equipped cars needed this extra ounce of protection. The original system used during 68 and 69 had the return from the top nipple on the GF-432 fuel filter. Beginning in 1970 with the advent of the "long cannister" fuel pumps (except 70-72 LT-1), the function was transferred to the fuel pump and the inline filter eliminated. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
