The memberships recomendations have always been great. Can I get your advice on someone to restore my headlamp motors to topflight working order. Both are working, one is an original dated unit that is slow as molasses, the other is dated incorrectly but has been restored, and is brand new...I want to swap it out for an original dated version(obviously for money) and have the other rebuilt. Who is the best rebuilder?, and what should I expect to pay on a swap and on a rebuild? The originals are dated 10-63, the new one I have is 10-66.

Re: Headlamp Motor Restoration - Midyears
Dino - The system can generally be restored to top operating condition by disassembling, cleaning, and regreasing the transmission. Often the worm gear will have distorted teeth, but they can be reused by rotating them 180 degrees to expose unused teeth for a second life. Last time I bought a new worm gear was in the seventies, and I think is cost about $2.50. Don't know if they're still available. If the headlight buckets don't rotate freely with the motor/tansmission assembly removed, then you should remove the buckets and clean, repair, and grease the bearings as required.
