I have a pair of original F41 rear shocks, part# 3171489, that have a date of 1 E 67. Would I read this date as May 1, 1967 or would it be the 5th week of January, 1967 whereas 1 = month, E = week, 67 = year? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Don.

Don------
It may very well be that these shocks were "batch-manufactured" during certain periods of the year and were not manufactured on a continuous basis. Considering that these shocks were Corvette-only and were used in very small numbers, that would make sense. In fact, it's surprising that they would have been manufactured on more than a few days per year. In a few days, they could probably have manufactured a whole year's requirement. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1967 F41 rear shock dates?
Thanks Joe! I also have an F41 rear shock that is dated 5 B 67. February 5, 1967 fell on a Sunday. Do you think that perhaps there was a Sunday shift or maybe it was stamped with the wrong date by accident? This was another reason why I thought I was reading the date incorrectly. Thanks, Don.- Top

Sunday shifts were a rarity. It's possible that I am incorrect regarding the decoding of the shock dates. The "5 B" may decode to something other than February 5. If so, though, its a strange Delco coding system the likes of which I've not seen on other Delco parts of the era. Most often, Delco chassis parts of the period will use a julian date coding system. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
