Ridge, I agree with your comments. I am a new NCRS member as well although I have lurked on the TDB for some time.

By the way, the *NM* that you see in the title of the post merely means that there is "No Message", other than of course, what was wirtten in the title. It has nothing to do with someone being a new memeber of NCRS. It is often used to say "Thanks" and for for very short direct answers.

      Ridge,

The infamous *NM* is inserted by the system. It means there is 'No Message' in the body of the post, just a title.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks Michael for that helpful clarification. Let me know if I may ever be of help, Ridge.

          here we go again

          Good-natured sarcasm = comraderie

This is not the sort of topic where there is a "right answer" so your point about self-proclaimed experts (there are many respected experts on here, I am not one of them) not having the "right answer" would not seem to apply. This is a matter of debate, famously championed on one side by Roy, whose [now former] '67 SB with the BB hood was what Nolan Adams picked up on in his rather famous tome; and the other side is still well-populated with some serious experts (some having moved on). It matters not what side I fall on, I am no well-respected expert (I am not even respected ) Since this is a matter of sometimes tense debate, you might see sarcasm used to keep it friendly.

If you can't particpate in the good natured sarcasm without getting your panties in a twist, you will never get to the comraderie part . . . .

Re: 1967 Small Block with a Big Block Hood

            Rick, Ridge, and others:
I am #211, so I've been around longer than dirt.
Anytime anyone attacks old members, new members, or anyone, I am saddened. This is an organization that has, as its design, to bring people together with their common interest/love for old Corvettes. Anytime oldies attack newbies (or newbies counter-attack oldies) we are fogetting what we are about.
My role in life--I'm completing my 34th year as a pastor--the last 14 in a church that is now 7500 people. Church people have a common interest, and yet are masters at attacking others. That angers and saddens me, even as I work with it every day.
My role in the NCRS--I've been the 61-62 team leader twice, have written 30+ articles, have judged I'm not sure how many regional and national meets--and I see many of the same things.
I've seen judges blow well-meaning car owners out of the water, and then wonder why the owner doesn't come back for more. I've seen owners wtih their handsomely-paid restorer attached to their hip, attacking judges to get a point back here and two points back there.
How easily we forget what we're all about. Who has ultimate knowledge of these cars? No one, unless they've followed every car down the line at Flint, or St. Louis, or Bowling Green. I've owned 29 62's--judged probably 5-- more, researched 1000's more--and have much more to learn.
I, too, get frustrated when someone has their own agenda, like promoting their own car, whether it is correct or not--but I try my best not to lower myself to attacking others, whether they attack me or not.
FWIW--I suggest we try really hard to enjoy the hobby!!!!!!!!

                Re: Here we go again.

Rick: Don't know what to say. Was gone all day yesterday. Just turned on the puter and was looking forward to seeing how the 2 sides duked it out on the 67 hood topic. Instead, I found I started a "slam fest", I'm a coward, and "make fun of people" in annonymity. Well, I thought it was just light-hearted comment on the oncoming debate on a fun subject. A couple of people have called to tell me they thought the same thing. Guess you don't agree. My full name is above. My email is : dave414th@gmail.com. I live in Glendale,AZ and my phone number is listed . Feel free to email if you forgot to tell my anything more. The 67 bb hood dissusion is always fun and I don't see how stating that fact was starting a slam fest or making fun of anyone. It wasn't really meant for you. Just an observation. Didn't even notice your membership number. I guess it was a wise-ass comment but wasn't aimed at anyone and certainly I never could imagine anyone being angry over it. I guess I should have put up a bunch of those "smiley faces" and everything would have been better.

                  Re: Here we go again.

You have already found out what "Here we go again" means. The problem is that unless someone actually finds documentation on this, no one will ever know.

During the Feb/Mar time, about 3000 cars a month were being turned out. That is about 150 per day. Roughly half of production were big blocks, so you can guess that 75 of those cars per day were small blocks.

If this occurred for 2 or 3 days like is believed, then you are looking for 150 to 225 cars roughly.

Given how things change with Corvettes, the truly original survivor that gets nothing ever changed is very low, so you may only have 10% still around (a complete guess), 15 to 22 cars. How many are NCRS members? How many have them tucked in a garage, and haven't seen daylight in 25, 30, or more years?

So what are the odds of finding them after 40 years of wrecks, racing, modifying, restoration, and more? After all, how many 25 years ago removed that "unoriginal" big block hood to restore the car "correctly" according to the NCRS Judging Manual?

They are like UFOs. A lot of claims both ways, with lots of evidence that doesn't quite convince the other side. Until we have a couple people can touch, this will be on-going.

I second that very much. I admit, I am somewhat guilty of that, myself. But I try to be better.

                        Re: Here we go again.

Hi Dave, I was not sure what your comment meant and was just asking in my initial response to your post... Then someone named Glen Kin chimed in with NuBee. Before I could ask him what he meant by that The remakes started flying, both on and off the discussion board. I got several emails sent directly to me and was supplied at the S*&t I had stirred up. I had read about the hood thing in several places and my local NCRS people said they knew of this as well. I am looking at a March 9th built car that has a big block hood on it and was told I should look into this as there were a few built this way from the factory. This car is not being represented as one of these cars I was just aware of the story and wanted to confirm it myself. Boy the question was asked and the crap flew??? The comment I made about cowards was directed at people that emailed me directly and left no way for me to return an email to them, not you. Thanks for you light hatred comments and response and it was well received. I do not think any less of the NCRS as I am well aware of the small minded people that are in every organization out there. Kindest regards, Rick

Mike, thank you so much for those clearly, heartfelt comments. What excellent, and fitting words. You are one of the people that I look so forward to having the opportunity to meet someday, as I explore the regional and National conventions, in this healthy, vibrant, and worthwhile organization.
I feel in my heart that quite possibly, many people have had a breath of fresher air in the last couple of days. I hope any possible issue is put to bed for a while, and if there wasn't a serious issue, maybe the air was just cleared a little. Thanks once again, so much for the comments. Ridge.
