Online auction bidding
on eBay continues confuse bidders, watchers, and even eBay (notice their most recent bidder identification changes). However, online auctions (eBay, auto auctions, etc.) sometimes have a slight "odor" when unidentified bidders seem to "drive up the price". I think eBay made a mistake in hiding bidder IDs. At least you could watch for patterns in specific buyers and sellers, and report them to eBay. But, their rationale was that they wanted to keep the Bidders from being "harassed" by other Sellers. Of course, what they really want is to isolate the sellers from bidders, and keep all sales going thru the auction and to eliminate "off auction" transactions.
There are other online auctions which have a 15 minute rule. The auction is extended 15 minutes with each bid. I think the 15 minute rule makes auctions more fair, by allowing all bidders an equal opportunity to place their best bid.
On ebay, I bid what you want to give. If it goes for more, then I think somebody paid too much. But, as usual, one man's junk is another's treasure.
