In 67 it was 6000 rpm. In all probability it will be the same on a 66 but I could be mistaken. Don't have any books handy.

      Bryan and Jacob-----

I THINK that 1966 L-36 was 5,600 RPM. Then, I think that it went to 6,000 RPM for 1967. Then, back to 5,600 RPM for 68-69. The engine internals did not change in any significant way from 1966 through 1969, though.

        Joe,

Thanks a bunch. I saw a 66 big block at the local Corvette Shop today and was told it was a non #'s matching car. When I looked I saw a 942 block with the correct #'s stamped on the pad and it was as original as I have ever seen. The car had a low tach I think the redline was 5500, it probably was 5600, and the car as far as I can tell is the real deal.

The car sold from the second owner to the third a few days ago for 30 with a grand paid to the owner of the corvette repair shop for making the connection. The 3rd owner sold it to the 4th owner ( a classic car dealer) today for 35. None of these guys knew the #'s matched until I told them today!!! Now watch.... they will paint the car and ask 80-90 for it! But it will cost them a quite a few dollars to bring her up to snuff! For the first time EVER, I am glad my wife has cut me off on buying any more corvettes till I finish my 57, or I would be sick over losing out on that one!!!!

        Thanks again Joe!

        Best Regards,
        Jacob Angel

Sure it wasn't 5500 (vs. 5600) in 66? Just trying to keep my tables straight.

            My 66 427/390 no AC has a 5500 redline.....and 66 JG says 5500. Hope this helps.
