I am restoring a 54, more driver quality than NCRS standards, but correct where ever possible. I have been looking for a prebent exhaust system I can order to install myself, but have not found anyone that makes it for 6 bangers. We have an excellent muffler shop in town that can make and install a system for about $200.00. Any thoughts would be appreciated, including who sells the system.

Huh...
Seems to me Doc Rebuild, Corvette Central, Paragon, etc. all offer this system. Hand bending this system is a REAL pain, back when my Dad owned my '55 he had to have a system made every 5 yeaars or so. It was always the same story, the'd give him an price, make the system, realized they had figured about half the time it really took, and they'd say "Here's your car, don't bring it back next time." These pipes have to pass through the frame in four places, and the back end of the car. A quarter inch error in any direction will ground hard against the frame, causing godawful rattles. The 53-54 had oval mufflers, then they switched to 4" round mufflers in '55, which sound great. I'd be tempted to use the 55-62 "off road" mufflers to match this.
If this guy can do a rattle-free system for $200, jump at it..- Top

Re: 54 exhaust system
Ted, I got my '55 system from ****co. Lowest price and it fit well. Aluminized steel. When they sent my system, they sent me a '54 set of pipes from the manifold. I called and they sent the right pipes immediately. I still have the '54 front pipes in my garage, it would cost them more to send call tags than they were worth. If you want them, they are yours for the cost of shipping. Just email me. Then, you could order the rear pies and mufflers and call it good. That may make it less costly for you. These pipes will just sit in my garage and I have no reason to profit from ****co's error. Something for you to consider. They no longer make hangers for our cars, so you'd have to buy those from another vendor if you need them. My shipping to Nevada was $25.00 for the whole system, UPS.
