Good morning to all....I need help with adjusting my 1967 emergency brake. yesterday I had to push the corvette up a little in my garage, put it in neutral/ put the brake handle down and found that I was having a hard time moving it. I know I am getting old but I also know that I still have a little strength left. I discovered that the car was being held back by the emergency brake a little...(brake handle is all the way down)..I need to know how to loosen it up / details/ adjustment under the car / cable...do I have to take off a wheel (drivers side rear) to adjust it or can it be done without removing a wheel?...Thanks guys....Marc/California

Re: HELP! 1967 EMERGENCY BRAKE ADJUSTMENT
Marc,
Try loosening the nuts(one on each side) that hold the equalizer bracket. That should take any remaining tension off the cable and hopefully release the e-brake pads. You'll see the cables on each side that go to the wheels go slack when the tension has been removed. (Make sure you adjust the e-brake with the wheels off the ground)- Top

Re: HELP! 1967 EMERGENCY BRAKE ADJUSTMENT
Marc:
There is also an adjustment in the brake itself inside the rotor. There is a star wheel in there that can be rotated to spread the brake shoes apart just like in drum brakes. You can also withdraw the shoes from the rotor by adjusting in the opposite direction. The service manual has this covered. If your handle goes up about 1/3 of the way when you apply the brake then by releasing it you shuld be taking it all off to the limits of the rotor adjustment. This assumes, of course, that the shoes are not rusted and binding in the rotor.

Re: HELP! 1967 EMERGENCY BRAKE ADJUSTMENT
You must make the star-wheel adjustment of the shoes through the rotor first (with the equalizer adjustment backed off so the cables are slack), THEN make the cable adjustment at the equalizer. The procedure is detailed in Section 5 of the Chassis Service Manual.- Top
