With idle adjusting screw backed off, I cannot adjust idle below 950 rpm on my 65 with Carter AFB. I cannot find a vacuum leak and have replaced the vacumm advance. Any ideas?

Re: Carter AFB Idle Try
Bill the throttle shaft that goes thru the body of the carb could cause this, try moving it back and forth and up and down with your hand with car running and see if the idle changes. If it does it needs to be bushed by a carb shop. Good Luck Phil 8063- Top

Re: Carter AFB Idle
Check your total ignition advance with the vacuum line connected and the engine idling. The distributor could have been rebuilt at some point and may have very light springs that are allowing too much advance to kick in. Also check to see if the vac advance is pulling in too much timing. Some distributors had bushings installed to limit timing advance. I'll defer to someone more knowledgeable about the specific model and applications.- Top
