    C2 4-Sp Console Pattern Plate, Original Finish?

    Now I've read about the different 4-speed console pattern plates relative to the repro one's, (64-67), however my question is;
    Did the original plate have a thin flim of clear something over the top??
    Mine appears to have a flim or clear on top since some discoloration is apparent on the original plate. The NOS plate does not seem to have such a film, however its also thicker than orignal.

    Final ?, would one lose less points with an orignal that shows a little discoloration vs the NOS which is perfect. Can judges even tell??

    Thanks
    Alan

    Alan,

    Use the original one! In my opinion as a judge, I'd rather see a less than perfect original one than a perfect reproduction. Yes, you can tell a reproduction from an original, the brushed surface finish is different. You will get all the originality points and a very slight deduction for condition. I've got the outer door glass rubber sealing strips and door panel trim parts on my '64 that are original, they may not look perfect, but they are original and are judged as such.
