I received a letter from a fellow 65 pilot car owner regarding the existence of the 01 car. The owner in 1995 was Bill and Linda Beyer of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Does anyone know current contact information for the Beyers or the current owner of 01?

Re: 65 VIN 01
I believe Bill had it for sale in the Driveline in 1999. Was listed as Silver/Silver, FI, ZZ Paint Code, leather, NOM, Bloomington Gold, TopFlight. Was asking $42K. Previous owner Virg Stewart claimed it was a GM show car. He owned it from at least 1979 to 1982 in Nebraska. Tried to sell it in Vette Vues for around $11K at that time. Eric #3,182- Top

Re: 65 VIN 01
Bill was a founding member of the New England Chapter and a great guy. He has moved to New Hampshire and become less active in the Chapter although he still has some nice cars. The car was in the Bloomington special collection many years ago, trailered from Maine. I don't have his contact information, but other club members might know or you could try Google. Again, I'm pretty sure he is in NH. If all else fails, PM me and I will chase it down.

Bob McDorman Collection...
I don't remember the horsepower/tranny combo of the car as it sits now, but have seen this car several times at the Sept Bob McDorman Corvette Show held annually. It is a Silver/Silver coupe VIN #00001. Thought possibly it's shown as a hubcap/blackwall car if I'm remembering correctly.- Top

Re: 65 VIN 01
I remember this car when I was attending Corvette shows put on buy the Nebraska Corvette Association (NCA) in Lincoln, NE. in the early 1980's. Virgil was a professional photographer as I remember who took pictures at the NCA events. At that time, the car was white in color, had knock-offs, side exhaust and was a 365hp equipped car. In March of 1984, the car was painted by Corvette Nebraska in Madison, NE., I was there having some seat covers put on a 1968 Camaro that I was restoring. I remember seeing '65 serial #1 when all the paint was stripped off of it, you could see the where the factory had installed the side vents in the front fenders, not typically what you see on a later produced car when you look at the back side of the fender from the engine compartment.

Re: 65 VIN 01
There are some really interesting bits of information coming forth. It would be fascinating to speak with Virgil, Bill and the current owner. It sounds like the car was shown in a 365 and 375 configuration. The fenders are really interesting. The 8 and 9 cars seem to have had both cross flags and fuel injection emblems. I suppose the modified 64 fenders present on the 1 car may go a long way in explaining this atypical emblem application from G.M.- Top
