    3M weatherstrip adhesive

The lower part of the main door weatherstrip on my '65 Convertible is loose. Thus, I need an adhesive. I was told that using 3M weatherstrip adhesive may be annoying in my case because it's liquid and will run down before drying when you apply it on an installed door, i.e. on a vertical area. I'd appreciate any comments or other adhesive recommendations.

Used as Mike describes, you won't have any problem with the 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive "running". In fact, that's just how the factory did it and they used an adhesive which was VERY similar, if not identical, to what is available today (and, for years) as 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive.

If it's the 3M weatherstrip adhesive in the 5 once tube, part number 051135 - 08008 (black...correct yellow is a slightly different number), you can forget about it running. You'll be lucky to spread to a nice thin coat covering the desired area; slow, tedious, messy work. You have to spread it on like peach preserves with a popsicle stick...the only differences are it'll be rolling back up on the return stroke, sticking to your spreader, and stinging out as you try to extricate your tool from the mess.

I suppose it does come in a cans, and that would be the better way to go...you can probably brush it on after thinning. A thread this week discussed the solvents that can be used to thin 3M weatherstrip adhesive, but I don't remember what they were.
