I am wondering what gasket goes to my intake/carb interface. I am away from my AIM and parts book and catalogs. I called a local Chevy dealer and they gave me a part number #3967470 but said they cannot get them anymore nor could they give me any dimensions. At NAPA, their carb rebuild kit comes with a thin gasket (1/16" inch or so)for the carb/intake interface while their individual gasket catalog gave them a part number which calls for another thin gasket only it's shaped like a holley carb gasket (obviously wrong). The 71-72 carb/intake gaskets are about 1/4" thick and of the correct Rochester shape. What did my car come with originally? What is the thickness (approx) for that gasket?

Well, your Chevy parts man is correct. The original gasket for your car (UNLESS your car happens to be an original California-delivered car with EEC) was GM #3967470 and this gasket is GM-discontinued. This gasket was a composition with steel core gasket approximately 3/32" thick. It had one large plenum opening which was sort of "hour-glass" shaped. There were no individual holes for the carb bores like the 68-69 Q-Jet gaskets. Although discontinued, this gasket is available in reproduction from, I expect, sources like Dr. Rebuild. He's usually got gaskets "covered", so I expect that he has this one.
In the event that you have a 1970 which WAS equipped originally California-delivered and equipped with EEC, the gasket was originally GM #3969837. Currently, it is known as GM #10147945 and this gasket is still available. This gasket is an asseembly consisting of a gasket similar to the 3967470 attached to a relatively large, irregularly-shaped aluminum plate. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Intake/Carb Gasket for 1970 LS-5
I did get the gasket you described with a metal core from NAPA but it was not listed in their catalog for my particular application.
I do happen to have Dr Rebuild's catalog here at work (thought I left it at home) and it lists the gasket you mention as well as a "heat insulator" that resembles the approx. 1/4" thick gasket that I mentioned in my original post. The heat insulator is listed for 70-80 applications and is different from the CA cars. Should my non-CA emisions car also have a heat insulator or not?Tony- Top

I do not think that the thick insulator was used for 1970 non-EEC cars. The insulator of which you speak was GM 3998919 which was replaced in SERVICE several years ago by GM #10069984. I believe that this insulator/gasket was first used on a production Corvette in 1971 or 1972. I'll check later and confirm when I can get to my references. This insulator can, however, be used on a 1970 Corvette with Q-Jet. In this usage, it would REPLACE the gasket that I previously described. You would also have to fabricate a new automatic choke rod to compensate for the 1/4" or so of additional thickness. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Just for reference, the gasket mentioned by Joe for 70 California vettes is shown in the link below.

Re: Intake/Carb Gasket for 1970 LS-5
Hello Mike, I would love to have a digital camera but no way for now. I try to take good pictures and then scan them to use in the website and the like. But quality suffers with all those steps. Any way I will try to obtain detailed photos of original parts in my 70 (or other cars) for reference. All best, Roberto, NCRS #30019, RMC- Top

Tony, if it turns out you need P/N 1014-9745, the Q-jet carb gasket that goes with the Calif emissions setup, give a holler before I put it on eBay. ~Juliet
