Has my block been decked?

Can anyone tell me if my block has been decked or if it has a balnk pad? I purchased the car knowing it was blank and assuming it was NOT numbers matching. Now that I have it home its time to investigate what I have and what needs to be fixed. A link is attached to a thread with pics I started on corvetteforum. Any and all help is appreciated,

Linkee workee now. Deck surface looks heavily oxidized. I see no evidence of any numbers. If no numbers, probably not the block that came from St. Louis in car. Does the casting date work for you VIN??

Jim, you needed to post at least one picture here to really get the interest going.

It looks like a plain old broached pad that was not stamped. Unlike the guys in that thread, I can't see the bock being skipped for stamping TWICE. Once in Flint and the in St. Louis.

So I figure it is an over the counter block that someone bought and put in. an 0010 is mostly known as a 4 bolt main, so someone could have bought a 4 bolt -0010 block and put it in the car to hot rod it. What is the engine setup you have? Maybe that will lend a clue as to whether someone blew it up and replaced it.

The overwhelming majority of 0010 blocks were 2 bolt, not 4. This casting number was used across all GM car and truck lines, not just Corvette or other hipo installations.

Can't recall seeing an unstamped 0010 block before.

Guys, thanks, for the help. Here's a picture of the date code. Looks like a 1976 block. Do you concur? My car is a 1970 so its definitly a replacement. Is there anything else I should look for on the block?

On a side note I just ordered $150 worth of reference material from the NCRS store!!

Looks like a typical service block to me - they generally had blank pads; that one was cast in 1976, after the liability for the last of the 5/50 replacements expired.
