    Bob,
The article was written by Ken Kayser and is in Restorer Volume 22 Number 2. Most of the 091's with the early configuration details I have seen have the numbers toward the middle, but I have seen a few with the embossment toward the bottom. Maybe Roy can help us here.

Talking about letter size and 091 location , I believe it's do to different suppliers or early verses late production , like you see in headlight bulbs with the GUIDE being large or small . It's a miner thing and don't matter under judging at this point. Later 091's dont have the little holes for the retainer , so one would think it's a second design later 091???

I see little concern about first, second and third design for many parts in the JM.

Bob, I didn't read all the responses. But did you all know that the 091 coil was originally used on off road equipment, school buses and big trucks of that era??? That was the original application and later it was used for a few HP vehicles. Look in the Restorer and see Dale Pearman's article a long time ago on these coils. Dale used to really be into these things. One time I saw him carrying one at the Corvette Expo. Actually he was swinging it showing off as he walked by my trailer. I said hey old man you want to make a 100 bucks on that coil? His answer wasn't fit to print here but it was funny. He taught me a lot about those 091's. My Feb-March 63 FI car needs a nice original one as it has a NOS 087 as per the JM. But I heard that the new manual may state that my car needs an 091. Don't want a repro. Have nice 087 to trade. Oops. I am not allowed to do that here. John
