I was under the impression that the heater hoses for my application used ribbed heater hoses with no markings. But I see Doc lists this application with "JA" and "JB" stamped on the heater hoses.
You have a wrong impression. The heater hoses for most of 1969 and newer do NOT have the GM inside the square repeat logo that is so beloved by most Corvette parts sellers. A single broadcast code (in white) is often seen on the hoses -- sometimes on one hose, sometimes both.
BTW: There is nothing in the 1970-1972 TIM&JG third or fourth editions (that dates back to 1993) that would give anyone the impression that there are NO markings on the heater hoses of 1970-1972 Corvettes.
When building a car for jugding...go with the TIM&JG says unless you have a really good reason to believe it's inaccurate in a particular area.
Having said that, after reviewing the 4th edition TIM&JG, it doesn't sound like EITHER printed letter markings OR raised ribs are necessarily correct for most cars. The DL and U markings mentioned in the TIM&JG sound like the exception rather than the rule, and grooves rather than ribs are described. If your car has C60, however, I would definately go with the Doc's molded end hoses regardless of the markings, ribs, etc.
I don't want to put words in the Doc's mouth, but I believe I have heard him express here that he cannot believe the printed markings that some people insist are original on some heater hoses. I don't recall him specifically identifying which letters, model year, engine config he was talking about. Do an archive search; it seems like it was in the last six months, but for me, that could mean it was two years ago.
