    Mirror Dilemma

I am entering my car to be Flight judged in Charlotte next month, and I have a question.

First off when I bought the car 15 years ago it had two mirrors instead of just one. Both mirrors had no bowtie and the glass was dated 10 DMI 6. I suspect that my car had a dealer installed passenger mirror added and since it did not have a bowtie they took the original bowtie off the drivers side and put a matching non bowtie on the drivers side to match the passsenger side. My car is an early car and should have the bowtie mirror.

My question is put a repop bowtie mirror on without the dated glass or put the dealer installed mirror on with the dated glass. Or is it possible that my car did come with a non bowtie mirror? VIN 5241

I already tried taking the glass out of the old mirro and put in the repop frame but could not pull it off without risking breaking the glass---too old.
    Thanks,

      Re: Mirror Dilemma

10 DMI 6 equals OCT 1966 mirror. Per the Judging guide you should have a bowtie. There are vendors who will remove the mirror and install in a bowtie frame... Then you have all bases covered. Unfortunately I don't have a name... have seen them at Orlando Regional.

I'd leave the correct date mirror on the car and question the point of changeover. I doubt the dealer would change the glass.....

Re: Mirror Dilemma push in glass

are you pushing in on the glass to unseat the snap ring? I found these mirrors come apart very easy but only after pushing on the glass and using a pick tool or small jewler type screw driver. as said before use the dated glass and bow tie mirror and you are golden. bill
