    C2 hood release problem

I have an older restored 63 roadster and it seems in pretty good shape. Today when I pulled the hood release, nothing happned except the T-handle pulled out without any cable tension. It slides back and forth freely and the hood remains locked tightly. Can anyone tell me how to get access to the cable latches or what the work-around for this is? I'm not real sharp in this area so please lead me by the nose.
    Thank-you,
    Stan

Stan, since the handle pulled off the cable, this is good.

Take out the two hex-head bolts that hold the bracket under the cluster. When free pull the bracket away from the firewall. The bracket and the wire shield cover should pull away leaving the thin strong wire. Sounds like it should be still attached to the latch under the hood. Pull the wire with a pair of plyers and open the hood.

If this is an original handle and wire, try not to damage/bend the cable. The repros look nothing like an original and you will lose points when judged.

Sometime a good jeweler can silver solder the wire back into the handle.

Had the same thing on my 63.My son pulled on the "T" handle and I lightly hit the 2 back corners of the hood till it opened. Now you need to degrease the old than regrease.Be clean use lots of rags. There is a long cable on the firewall thats need to be cleaned.I took mine off and and hung it in the air put WD 40 till it moved easy.In the 2 corners are the hood clips make shure the springs work and degrease the latches.Do not over goo.Than when your all done do not close the hood check that it is working have someone pull the "T" handle and you make shure the hood clips open and close with ease Denny I have an early 63 #859 tool trays 340hp

        Harry,
I removed the bracket dropping the assembly down. Now the bracket slides back and forth while the handle remains attached. I can't get anywhere pulling on the handle of course becasue the bracket is unbolted. If I attempt to hold the bracket, the handle will slide back and forth. I guess I mis-stated the problem? The handle remains firmly attached. Thoughts?

Thanks Denny - I'm still working on trying to get the handle to pull the cable through the housing (?)but I will certainly do this if/when I get there.

Stan, I may have mis-read the problem. I thought the handle came off the wire. Can you re-attach the bracket. Try the other suggestion. Sorry, hope I didn't make a mess of it for you.

Stan, You can release the hood by reaching up from under the car. Find some pictures of the drivers side release. Jack up the car and reach up and actuate the release with your hand or screw drover etc. Eric

Hi All...do any of you experts know how the handle is attached to the wire? (ie compression fit or threaded?)

Release cable threads through the latch release where a brass ferrule (stop) is screwed on to keep the cable from detaching. Then, as a safety precaution, the release cable was bent after its exit from the stop....

Thx Jack...but maybe I wasn't clear enough. I need to find out how the "T" handle is secured to the bowden wire.
