    67 Roadster Windshield Replace?

Hi... My 67 Roadster could use a new (tinted) windshield, old age pitting mostly.
I heard this is a HARD job. My local windshield guy is willing to try doing it (he does lots of old cars).
    What advise can anyone lend?
Where/What parts should I purchase ahead parts besides the windshield and "gasket/seal?"
Should I buy a windshield vs. him.. etc.? Are all the same quality? Date coded?
I'm not sure what I'm getting myself into...
especially since the old one is still usable just not up to the standard of the rest of the car [strong #2].
Anyway any advise will be appreciated!
    Thanks!!!

A post from another site. Experienced glass men should have no problem. It's too late to dig out parts books tomorrow.

    "The windshield is in
I would like to tell y'all that I took lots of pics, but they were not here long enough! It was about 5 minutes from start to finish. They got out of the van with the cord in their hand, one of them set up the work stand while the other put the gasket on. Put the cord in the groove and set the windshield, and 2 minutes later, it was done. They spent more time looking at my cars than they did installing the glass."

That was me that Kevin was quoting. I have always done my own windshield work, but this time I decided to get a price from my local Bins****er (ACI) shop.
They were only $225 for a brand-name (PPG) windshield, installed, at my shop!
I would have spent $245 for the glass, $100 for shipping, and taken all the risk of damage on myself, but for $225 they did the job turn-key. I did supply the gasket, and I declined to allow them to install the trim for me. Make sure that you only use the domestic clips (Paragon), and do not attempt to reuse any original clips. The import clips will not engage reliably, and if you break an old clip, you must pull the windshield and gasket to replace the clip.
Get yourself some 3M strip caulk, and pack it into every bit of void around the gasket to completely fill the frame and keep water out. This is what the factory used on these windshields, and it is still pretty hard to beat. You can use urethane windshield sealant, but it will be a bitch to remove if you ever have to change glass. These guys were good, and only spent minutes installing the windshield. It is not that tough a job to do yourself, but it is a 2 man job, and you will probably come out less expensive if you farm it out! I learned a couple of tricks that I never knew by watching these guys, that will help me if I ever do one myself again.

        John,

Is your advice on not reusing original clips because they'll break due to age, even if they don't appear rusted or do they just become out of shape from removing the trim?

I bought a set of replacement clips from Long Island Corvette when I had my windshield replaced. The installer told me the new clips were junk and he reused the old ones.

            Rob,

I would never reuse old ones. There is too much chance of them breaking or being deformed, and you do not know until you try and engage the trim. Then you have no option but to pull the wndshield back out to replace the offending clips.
The import clips are JUNK and will not engage the trim reliably, and I would only use the clips from Paragon, as I know that they are the domestic ones.

Doug remove all the chrome trim by yourself, read your manual and it is time consuming but this way you can take your time and clean things up as you go, and make sure if you change those clips that you get them in the same as the ones that came out and that they dont sit any higher than the originals or your lower reviel molding will have a gap between it and where it meets the body, then have a glass man you trust help with the rubber gasket and getting it back in the frame correctly , make sure the rubber doesnt slip and stays uniform when installing also. jim
