    C2 Cluster Bulb Question

Just intslling my clsuter after having it fully restored over the winter. I ordered a new set of Bulbs and speedo, tach cables from LIC.

I know that the Headlight warning lamp requires a 257 bulb (lost points on this when I was judged last summer!). But I am confused as to whether the Brake lamp also requires a 257 bulb. I have seen references to this lamp requiring a 257 bulb - but the LIC 67 bulb kit only provides a single 257 bulb?

Is the kit wrong - or is the 257 not actually necessary for the brake lamp for correct operation.

    Thanks

    Glenn
Only the headlight warning lamp is a 257 flashing bulb on 67s.

Thank you for the fast response Bill!

The reference I had to the brake warning being a 257 was I believe on a 66. I guess this was something that varied on C2 model years.

        Glenn,

You (and Bill) are correct - while the headlights open warning lamp requires a blinking bulb on all C2s, the parking brake lamp only requires a blinking bulb on '63-'66.

Glen, look in your owners manual. There is a complete list of light bulbs and locations.

The reason for a steady on bulb in the brake position in 67 is that this lamp also indicates when the shuttle switch on the split brake system (separate front and back) has been tripped due to faulty brakes. Of course it also indicates when the e-brake is applied.

Geez Steve, I only bought the owners manual for the sake of documentary completeness, I didn't actually think here was any useful information in it, it's never been out of the plastic sleeve - guess it's high time I read it.

                Glenn -

Unlike current owner's manuals that are full of gobbledygook written by hordes of lawyers, you'll find yours interesting and informative - good stuff in there. My neighbor's new Mercedes S-Class owner's manual is 640 pages
