    C2 Differential Tag

I have noticed that there are two different tags for a 67 differential listed in Dr Rebuild catalog and Paragon catalog. There is no reference in the JM as to actual wording and checking the archives I haven't found a definite answer.

Here is the one I presently have on the car and is listed in the Paragon catalog.

Rick, I believe the one you have on the car from Paragon is the correct one for 1966 and 1967. The one from Dr. Rebuild is a copy of the GM replacement. I've seen the different ones identified in Noland Adams' or Dobbins' book. Jim Weeks - Member #2978

The "Use Positraction..." tag is the correct wording for 1967. This same tag was used until sometime in the early 70's; I've forgotten exactly when. After that time, the wording changed to "Use Limited-Slip...".

58 vettes didin't use the red plastic tags shown in this post. the 58 used a metal tag and pictures of such were recently posted on this board(couple days ago). mike

Thanks to all for your response to my question. Does anyone have an idea what the "17" on my plug represents?

No, I don't. Most likely, though, is that it's a mold or pattern number.

                  Re: C2 Differential Tag

Is there a stamped number or casted number in my (58) rear axle that would tell me which differential tag should be attached to my rear axle? If so, where should this number be located?
                  Thanks

No, there's not. However, you can tell what the gear ratio is by turning the driveshaft by hand with the rear wheels off the ground. Simply count the number of revolutions of the driveshaft to one revolution of the rear wheel. That's your ratio. You can also tell if the car is positraction equipped just by checking the casting number of the "pumpkin".

when facing the pinion yolk, outboard on the differential cast housing at about the 8 or 9 oclock position, you should be able to find some stamping that will give you the axle ration that was originally used in that housing. the NCRS Pocket sped guide will decipher the code for your 58 vette. mike
